The Müller
An inventory “à la Tinguely”
The exhibition is curated by Michel Ritter
This exhibition, carried out starting from a concept by Jean Tinguely, aims to join together and confront people by the name of “Müller”, – a very widespread surname in Switzerland – personalities whose activities, ideas and convictions marked fields as varied as the visual arts, scientific research, literature, music, cinema, sports, etc.
The project Müller takes its source at the origins of Fri-Art. During the exhibition of 1981 at the old diocesan seminar, “the Müller and others affaire” raised the problems of the freedom of expression and its limits. On this basis, Tinguely proposes to join together Müller personalities. The first list of nine Müller established by Jean Tinguely, remaining opened, was supplemented by the Center of contemporary art which develops the project. It now counts about thirty surprising personalities as well as groups of Müller. This exhibition proposes a “slice” in the society of the 20th century and opens, within the framework delimited by this surname, a restricted range of the authentic and impassioned investigations which animate our society.
Apart from any set of themes, it shows the various concerns of our society which are integrated in a legitimate way in contemporary artistic research. Images of human being and society will be born from this survey in reality.
