John Nixon & Group Otto

The exhibition is curated by Michel Ritter

The non-objective art, the radical modernism, to re-give a meaning to art of painting by the means of geometry, colour, flat tint and materials, are the concerns of John Nixon.

The work of John Nixon is not limited to painting. The concepts of the total artist and Gesamtkunstwerk underlie his work by the means of media and ideas, in a kind of dialogue of the senses. In addition to his work and his texts, he carried out films, experimental music, plays, organized exhibitions and worked with groups of artists.

In the 1980s he developed a concept, The Experimental Painting Workshop. EPW is a workshop for an experimental painting, developing a research program whose principles are the minimalism, the monochrome, non-objectivity and constructivism.

Group OTTO, to which belonged John Nixon with A.D.S. Donaldson and Gary Wilson, create an autonomous work, starting from the personal experiment of each of the artists.
