Jeroen De Rijke / Willem de Rooij

  • Jeroen De Rijke + Willem de Rooij

The exhibition is curated by Michel Ritter

We could define films by Jeroen de Rijke and Willem de Rooij like filmed time spaces, that amend the laws of representation. The artists use an unusual cinematographic technique. The dialogues are mostly banal, sometimes a pretence of intrigue is outlined to create a confusion, or sometimes it’s the title which plays this role, and certain declarations can be of a destabilizing obviousness.

The film Forever and Ever, presented at Fri-Art, is built in well structured sequences giving the impression of an indisputable logic which is very quickly proved superficial. We finally observe that the most significant element of the film are not images that it gives us to look at, but the time that we pass to look at them.
