Harmony Korine
- Harmony Korine
The exhibition is curated by Michel Ritter
The cinema of Harmony Korine is located in the spirit of the “Dogma 1995”, suggested by Lars von Trier and other Dutch scenario writers – a proclamation that constitutes a counter-proposal to the world cinema.
The violence and the cruelty of the cinema of Korine are expressed through “plays of idiocy” and explore psychologies, even pathologies of often marginal characters. This manner of filming and the tackled subjects have the appearance of a resistance; they always contain a critic of the capitalist and liberal system; and the plays of idiocy become plays of intelligence where the spirit remains alert.
The spontaneity of these images rejects at the same time the professionalism of the actors and academism of Hollywood. At Fri-Art, with The Diary of Anna Frank Leave II (1997) and The Sigil of the Cloven Hoof marks Thy Path (2000), Korine makes his non narrative cinema and the icones of the current Hollywood cinema dialogue; thus confronting critical-cinema, a truth-cinema and a cinema of entertainment, often assuaging, even brutal.
Two films are screened at Belluard Festival : Julien Donkey Boy, Tuesday 10.07, 11 pm and Gummo, Wednesday 11. 07, 10:30 pm
