Bernd & Hilla Becher

  • Bernd & Hilla Becher

The exhibition is curated by Michel Ritter

The Bernd & Hilla Becher couple of Düsseldorf influenced a whole generation of artists. Several photographers of international fame, such as for example Thomas Ruff, were their pupils. For this reason one can even speak about a “Becher school”.

In this exposition, in collaboration with the galleries Sonnabend of New York and Art & Public of Geneva, the two aspects which made them famous are presented: typologies or photographical entities and the Singles.

Since more than thirty years, Bernd & Hilla Becher are fascinated by the constructions carried out by man. These industrial monuments, photographed according to a specific and meticulous prise de vue technique, become sculptures by their concept. In addition to this extraordinary industrial archeology, existential metaphors appear which, very quickly, use the feelings which live in us.
