Fri-Art @Liste 2000 –The Young Artfair in Basel

For their tenth year jubilee Fri-Art has put together an ambitious program titled État des lieux (Definition of the position) in which they try to fathom various aspects of current art practice. External curators have been invited to present their own personal view of the contemporary arts. The project consists of four exhibitions taking place throughout the year 2000. Fri-Art@LISTE 2000 is the fifth event taking place during the jubilee year and offers one more point of view.

We suggested to artists whose work corresponds to our concerns to intervene in this particular event, which will certainly draw a large public, or supply a work for it. From year to year, art fairs attract a growing number of visitors. Is this a fashion thing, a phenomenon of the consumer society, a form of entertainment – or is it tangible proof of artistic emancipation and growing cultural awareness?
