Patty Chang

  • Patty Chang

The exhibition is curated by Michel Ritter

The body is for Patty Chang at the intersection of memory, the method and the object(s), but the latter must allow a new significance, beyond or contrary to technology. The performances of Patty Chang make the experiment –sometimes painful – of endurance, which the art critic RoseLee Goldberg describes as “silent cry”.

Each piece/performance of the artist tries to build a sufficiently rich image to contain and embrace the images of the past to point out the future. In other words, and paradoxically, the art of Patty Chang tries to create images able to recall the future to the memory. For that the means which the young artist chose is a combination of performance, with her aspect of social role-play, and the photography which implies a more fixed and mise en scène side.

By her work, Patty Chang recalls us our human condition to which suffering, love, fantasies, our body and its evolution belong.
