Works 2008–2018

  • Lucie Stahl

The exhibition is curated by Fabrice Stroun

From 7 April to 6 May 2018, Friart Kunsthalle presents the first Swiss solo exhibition of German artist Lucie Stahl (1977, Berlin). Taking up both floors, this exhibition brings together around 30 works conceived since 2008, the year the artist began creating photographs using a scanner, a device that was becoming omnipresent in our daily lives around that time. Stahl gathers used objects, detritus of our industrial consumer culture, images from magazines as well as fluids of indistinct origin and organic matter on the glass of the scanner. Works 2008-2018 takes these phantasmagorical compositions, a selection of documentary photographs, texts and sculptures and – through a combination of humor and horror – refers to a society gradually moving towards its own suffocation.

Lucie Stahl (*1977, Berlin) had solo exhibitions at the Dallas Museum of Art (2016), the Halle für Kunst in Lüneburg (2016) and at Kunstverein in Cologne (2011) and Nuremberg (2009). She has taken part in collective exhibitions at the Kunsthalle in Basel (2017), the Berlin Biennial (2016) and Lyon Biennial (2015), the New York Sculpture Center (2014) and at Magasin in Grenoble (2014).
